Genie Bouchard undergoes shoulder surgery, out of action indefinitely

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has undergone arthroscopic shoulder surgery, and is currently recovering from the procedure with no definite timeline set for a return.

The 27-year old posted a photo on Monday on her social media, in which she was in a hospital bed with her right arm in a sling. She stated that she underwent the procedure last week, after discovering that she had torn her subscapularis muscle in her right shoulder in Guadalajara in March. Despite the injury, she still managed to reach the finals before losing to Sara Sorribes Tormo.

The Montreal native stated that she had since been trying every treatment and rehab program possible to fix the torn muscle before deciding to pull the trigger and have arthroscopic surgery. Although her doctor said the surgery went well, she did not provide a timeline for her recovery, adding that she faces “a tough road of rehab ahead” and her spirits remain high.

The former World No.5 is known for reaching the Wimbledon finals in 2014, but has since struggled with her form and fitness as her ranking has fallen to No.117 on the WTA Tour.
