It has been a good week for the German representation so far at the
Hamburg European Open with a trio of home hopes into the Quarter-Finals.
Eva Lys who is heralded as potentially the next big hope in German tennis saw off Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-1 on Wednesday evening. Arantxa Rus now awaits for Lys.
This after she thrashed Mayar Sherif, second seed who no doubt was fatigued after a run to the latter stages of Palermo last week. But it was a 6-1, 6-1 win for the 21 year old.
The player that Lys partnered in her main-draw debut back in this tournament in 2021 in Noma Noha Akugue is also into the Quarter-Finals.
She saw off Storm Sanders 0-6, 7-6, 6-4 earlier on. While
Jule Niemeier who has long been one of the top names amid Angelique Kerber's pregnancy and Andrea Petkovic retiring is also living up to that.
She saw off Yulia Putintseva 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. But it wasn't a near clean sweep as Tamara Korpatsch lost to the returning Daria Saville in her best run since returning from ACL surgery.
