Mark Philippoussis 🇦🇺 $10,000 fine for breaching tennis betting sponsorship rules after receiving payment for providing a voiceover to promotional content for a gaming operator. He did not contest the charge
Recently ending his partnership with Stefanos Tsitsipas, it isn't the only piece of bad news for former top 10 player Mark Philippoussis.
Philippoussis was fine $10,000 and given a four month suspended ban after "receiving payment for providing a voiceover to promotional content for a gaming operator." He has since been working with Maria Sakkari after leaving Tsitsipas before the grass court season.
Supposedly Philippoussis did not contest the charge and cooperated in full with the investigation.
"As a sport, tennis has decided that accredited individuals should not have commercial relationships with betting companies ... ," ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse said. "Whilst this case is clearly not one of corruption, it is a rule that players, coaches, and others in the sport need to be aware of."
As well as being a renowned coach of Tsitsipas, he was runner-up in the 1998 US Open final to Pat Rafter and 2003 Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic.
