Mark Philippoussis use to coach Stefanos Tsitsipas recently but he's now making the move to the other top-ranked Greek player as
Maria Sakkari is hiring him.
Mark Philippoussis was hired by Stefanos Tsitsipas as a new voice in his team and to improve his play on grass. The former Australian player certainly delivered on that as Tsitsipas saw his grass tennis improve quite a bit. He even won a trophy in Mallorca last year and made a solid run at Wimbledon, far better than before.
Even so, the duo parted ways earlier this year as Tsitsipas felt there were too many voices which indicate that the former player might have had some disagreements about how he should play. He opted to stay with his father, something many questioned for a while now wanting Tsitsipas to try something new as his tennis kind of looks stuck. He's not really improving that much in recent years.
Sakkari jumps in
Since the former player is a free agent, another player jumped in to hire him and it's none other than Maria Sakkari. Philippoussis exchanged the top ATP player for the top WTA player. It's not clear what type of cooperation it is because the Australian might just be part of her team for the grass season. They were spotted together on the courts in Berlin where Sakkari will take part in the bett1 Open.
She hasn't parted from her longtime coach Tom Hill but likely added another voice but until she speaks on the situation we don't know if it's a trial, permanent, only for the grass season or something else. Her tennis suffered greatly this year even though the record is fine (21-12). She has yet to make an impact run at any event though that's not entirely different from her career so far in general.
