Amid concerns that Jessica Pegula may not be ready for the Australian Open, she aimed to alleviate those fears for her fans as the 2025 season begins this week in Brisbane.

Pegula was set to be in the line-up but had to withdraw as injury returned in what has been an ongoing battle since Spring 2024 where she had to take a considerable amount of time off.

Albeit returning in time for the grass court season, she started to thrive and made it count reaching her maiden Grand Slam final losing to Aryna Sabalenka. But despite that, she withdrew from the WTA Finals before the final match citing injury.

It was the knee that was the ongoing battle in early 2024 as she spoke about in quotes released by Tennis.com last week as she took a prolonged break for the first time after being one of the most consistent factors on the WTA for a long time.

“I haven’t had that long of a break since Covid,” Pegula said, referring to the pandemic lockdown. “I’ve played so much over the last three, four years that it all caught up with me. I was at a burning-out point and I think in a way getting hurt was probably the best thing for me.”

Sharing footage though of Christmas Eve practice in coordinated racquet and kit. She wrote on her Instagram: "Christmas Eve practice, had to coordinate. Getting ready for Aus soon" finished with a closed eye winking emoji.

It could be as soon as next week. She is signed up to play Adelaide so perhaps unless a withdrawal happens, it is more just that she is exercising precaution over anything else after dealing with injury throughout most of the season.

For instance, this would've been a recent flare up as she played in the Garden Cup in New York losing to Emma Navarro. So while she will be disappointed, it seems she is back quicker than expected next week.
