In a marathon match that could have gone either way, Beatriz Haddad Maia was able to overcome Amanda Anisimova and secure her spot in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International II on Wednesday.

The 11th seed needed two hours to fight past her dangerous opponent, scoring a 6-4 7-5 win in a thrilling see-saw encounter. Haddad Maia looked confident in the opening set, saving the only break point faced as she dictated play behind her first serve. Additionally, she capitalized on Anisimova's weak second serve, winning 75% of those points to obtain an early break and take the first set.

Anisimova rallied back in the second set, employing her big-hitting groundstrokes to secure a break. However, Haddad Maia fought back to even the score at 5-5, displaying some exceptional mental strength as she went on to secure another break and serve out the long-winded encounter.

Haddad Maia improves to 1-2 in career meetings against Anisimova, and will face the winner between ninth-seeded Spaniard Paula Badosa and Estonian veteran Kaia Kanepi.
