Simona Halep has picked off where she left off before the Coronavirus pandemic began by claiming a 21st career title at the Prague Open defeating Elise Mertens 6-2, 7-5.
Halep has been in good form this week; she has technically won back to back titles after victory before the lockdown in Dubai; now with a decision to come in the next few days regarding her attendance at the US Open, she has continued to win and is the second winner of the restart.
The World No.2 began well coming from 2-0 down in the opening set reeling off six straight games to claim the opening set.
Mertens broke and held to begin the next set; but Halep claimed momentum back going 3-2 up herself; but the former came back again holding her serve to lead 5-4 after a break to put it back on serve.
Halep again though wrestled it back and ended up serving for the title from there; after being put under sustained pressure in the second set. A perfect backhand into the corner earned championship point; the job was done for the No.1 seed.
