Simona Halep has been firing on all cylinders this week at the
Australian Open, as the Romanian scored an impressive win over
Danka Kovinic to advance to the fourth round.
The former World No.1 required just 65 minutes to record the 6-2 6-1 victory, playing her ultra-efficient game to frustrate her opponent. Both ladies exchange breaks to begin the match, before Halep began a four-game run that saw her clinch the first set in just half an hour.
The two-time Grand Slam champion obtained an early break to begin the second set, with Kovinic finally able to hold after surrendering six straight games to the 14th seed. This would be Kovinic's last hold, as Halep reeled off another four consecutive games to close out the match and progress to the fourth round.
The Romanian has been on a tear this week, dropping only 12 games in three matches and winning them all in straight sets. She will face French veteran Alize Cornet for a spot in the quarterfinal.
