Simona Halep is back to winning ways in Moscow at the Kremlin Cup taking down Anastasia Potapova 6-1 6-3.
Simona Halep is back to playing tennis regularly and the first match at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow was a great success. Halep has been making her return slowly ever since suffering a bad lower leg injury during the summer and with every match, she is looking better. Her opponent was Potapova and Halep had no issue against her showcasing dominating form early on in the match.
Halep came out furious taking an early break 2-0 after which Potapova pulled t back to 1-2 That was the last game she would win in the first set as Halep continued playing impeccable tennis blasting winners from both sides. Rather quickly it was 6-1 for Halep with Potapova playing a very bad match. She just did not have enough to counter Halep's imposing baseline game.
The 2nd set was a lot more exciting as Potapova raised her level successfully which was enough to make the match a lot more interesting. Potapova was serving very aggressively trying to keep Halpe away from attacking her early in order to have a chance in rallies. It made things more competitive but Halep was still able to take an early 2-0 lead.
Most of that damage came on Potapova's 2nd serve which was simply too weak to keep Halep at bay. The trouble for Halep was that a similar thing happened to her especially with Potapova playing a lot better and more aggressively in the 2nd set. A 2-0 lead turned to a 4-4 score but Halep consolidated herself in time to win the match 6-4.
