Jabeur forced to retire in Moscow, diminishes chances for WTA Finals

Ons Jabeur suffered a devastating blow in the hopes of qualifying for the WTA Finals in Guadalajara after being forced to withdraw from the Kremlin Cup.

A fierce battle for the final few spots at the WTA Finals is underway and Ons Jabeur, currently placed 9th in the race, is hoping she will make the cut. The Tunisian player has played sensational tennis all season long however in today's match in Moscow she simply did not have it. Jabeur did not look right from the start of the match losing points with ease.

Jabeur is rarely ever blown out but today that was the case in the first set of her match against Alexandrova with the Russian taking the set 6-1. One game into the 2nd set Jabeur decided to retire as she looked worse as the match went on. The culprit for retirement is a rather obvious one, fatigue. Jabeur has played a lot of matches this year but also recently.

A very good run in Indian Wells and then the travel all the way to Russian with adjusting to different time zones and all of that took its toll. The defeat comes as a blow to her hopes of making it to the WTA Finals as she is currently 9th in the Race. There is a chance Barty won't play the Finals however if she does play Jabeur is out. There are several events left and Jabeur will be back to playing next week. For now, it's to rest.
