American youngster Jenson Brooksby keeps on winning on the ATP Tour level with
Reilly Opelka his latest victim 6-4 6-4.
The American duo clashed at the Antwerp
European Open and it was the younger Brooksby who proved better. As an indoor match, it featured rather short rallies that were dominated by a powerful strong first serve by both. Brooksby was better on return in both sets which allowed him enough opportunities to defeat Opelka.
Opelka had trouble reading Brooksby's serve and even when he got the ball back into the court the young American blasted a winner. The frustration boiled over for Opelka during the match and the camera caught him saying: "How did Novak Djokovic win a game against this guy" Brooksby took a 5-3 lead towards the end of the first set and closed it out with 6-4.
The 2nd set featured even shorter rallies and point with neither player allowing much. Opelka had one bad serving game early in the set and Brooksby was able to break him for the 3-1 lead. After that, both players dominated their service games with no break points for the rest of the match.
In the end, a very strong match by Brooksby who did not allow a single break point in the entire match. For Opelka, this was a very bleak showing and not getting a single break point in a match is not a good look for the big-serving American. Brooksby moves on to face Van De Zandschulp.
