American tennis phenom Coco Gauff may be a household name at this point in her career, but the 19-year old believes she is just like everyone else.
The Atlanta native burst into the tennis scene when at age 15, she defeated WTA icon Venus Williams in the first round of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. The 19-year has experienced a meteoric rise ever since, winning consecutive WTA 500 and 1000 events before claiming her maiden Grand Slam trophy at the 2023 US Open and breaking into the top 10, where she currently sits at World No.3.
Prior to her opening round match at the 2024 Indian Wells event, Gauff took some time to address her approach on dealing with being a sporting superstar.
"I just don’t feel famous, I feel like a regular person," revealed Gauff. "People approach me and I feel like they think I’m some extraordinary being and I’m not – I’m just a tennis player, and a person who tries to uplift the people around her. So many people in the world do that, not just famous people, also just regular humans in their communities. I don’t think fame makes me any different."
