Although
Novak Djokovic has shown little sign of slowing down, the Serbian recently admitted he has thought about when to call it quits, with the
Olympic Games in 2028 being a possible target date.
The World No.1 lifted three of the four Grand Slam titles last year, and reached the Wimbledon final where he fell to Carlos Alcaraz in an epic marathon match. Furthermore, he continues to add more trophies to his cabinet, winning another ATP Finals title and cementing his position as the overall leader in weeks spent at World No.1 as he approaches 420 weeks. However, there is one accolade that continues to elude him, the Olympic gold medal.
Djokovic in the hunt for gold at Paris Olympics
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held on the clay courts of Roland Garros in Paris this summer, and Djokovic is set to compete, barring any injury. The 37-year old will get one more chance to represent his country at the quadrennial event with the aim of winning a gold medal. The 24-time Grand Slam champion's best effort was bronze at the 2008 edition in Beijing, and considering he will be 41 when the next Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles in 2028, many fans believe the Parisian event will be his last real shot at winning the elusive gold medal.
"Everything is on the cards. I just don’t know how many cards I have left, you know," admitted Djokovic. "Let’s see. It’s still very far to think about – Los Angeles Olympic Games. But the thought of it excites me, of course. Love to play that. As we know, Olympics come every four years. I can’t really commit to that yet."
