World No.2
Aryna Sabalenka has etched her name in the record books by winning two consecutive
Australian Open titles, but the Belarusian star disclosed her mother would like her to win a different Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka broke her Grand Slam drought when she defeated Elena Rybakina in the final of the 2023 Australian Open to win her first Major title. Following a successful 2023 season, the 25-year old made history by joining an elite list of players to defend their title in Melbourne, overcoming China's
Zheng Qinwen in the 2024 final to win her second Major title.
Her Grand Slam titles look boring, according to Sabalenka's mom
The Belarusian came close to adding to her Grand Slam titles tally last year, but fell to Coco Gauff in a thrilling three-setter at the 2023
US Open final. Nonetheless, winning two Majors is no easy feat and Sabalenka had an interesting response when asked where she keeps the biggest trophies of her career.
"My mom has them, and they are side by side," revealed Sabalenka. "She calls them twins and she says, ‘We need to have a different one – it looks boring when you have two of the same ones, can you work on the other Slams?’ 😂 I’m like mom, what an easy request, thanks for that – you could have just appreciated these two, they weren’t easy to get.”
