Tunisia’s tennis star
Ons Jabeur has revealed the reason behind
getting some help from former world number seven Fernando Verdasco. The 29-year-old
is currently taking part in the
Madrid Open where she has booked her place in
the round of 32 after securing a win in the second round against Serbia’s Anna Karolina
Schmiedlova with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 on Thursday.
Jabeur was recently seen training with the 2009 Australian
Open semifinalist in Madrid. Talking about it, the three-time Grand Slam runner-up
stated that she is working with Verdasco because of his positive energy. “I’m
trying to get the Spanish mentality on the clay, apparently it’s not that bad
to play with that,” said Jabeur. “We’re close friends and he just had his third
baby, so we’re having the energy of a new baby in the team. It’s nice to have
him, I’ve always been a fan of him as a player, but also as a person because he
has such amazing energy. He’s helping me this week, so hopefully we can have
more matches together.”
Jabeur, who is going through a bit of time in the ongoing
2024 season, will face Canada’s Leylah Annie Fernandez in the round of 32 of
the ongoing WTA 1000 event on Saturday.
