Hidden away on Court Eight,
Mirra Andreeva continued her love affair with the
Madrid Open surging into the third round with a three set win over Linda Noskova.
The 16-year-old reached the Last 16 last year and despite recently having injury issues and also having to endure a coaching change, she has looked superb so far this week after disappointing in Rouen last week.
Losing the first set narrowly 6-4, she won the next two 6-3 to move through. It was locked in at 4-3 down after losing her serve and this proved vital as she went on to lose the opener. The second was a lot better and she should’ve won it a lot easier surging to 5-1 up. But she got through it with no resolve from Noskova. She had to survive some adversity in the final set going 3-1 up but it was pegged back to 3-3. But she won three games on the spin for the win. Marketa Vondrousova or Shelby Rogers await.
