Paula Badosa is currently the 2nd best ranked Spanish tennis player sitting behind Garbine Muguruza in the rankings. The Spanish player had a major breakout year in 2021 that finished with an appearance at the 2021 Finals. She reached the semifinals but ultimately lost to Muguruza who ended up winning the event. She said goodbye to the 2021 season with a Twitter post writing:
"Goodbye to 2021... What a season, I had always dreamed about this moment of being among the best in the world. After a lot of hard work, I have achieved it and I'm very proud to have reached this point. I have lived many emotions this year and many new experiences. Every day I'm learning and trying to improve to be 1 per cent better as a person and athlete. Thanks to all the fans who follow me and support me unconditionally, I try to read all of you always."
In a recent interview, she also spoke fondly about Rafael Nadal and how he is a role model for everyone who is playing tennis in Spain. Asked what makes him unique Badosa gave an interesting reply, one you might not hear too often:
"Rafa has one thing that, for me, makes him unique: he is able to move people by playing tennis."
His matches are certainly emotionally charged more so than other players due to his relentless style of play and willingness to leave everything on the court.
