Canada’s tennis star Leylah Fernandez’s interesting pose during the training session before the start of the China Open has caught a lot of attraction. The WTA competition started in the capital city of Beijing on Wednesday where some of the best players in the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Fernandez, who was once regarded as one of the most talented players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category, especially when she played in the final of the US Open in 2021 and lost to Britain’s Emma Raducanu in straight sets, is also taking part in the China Open and will begin her campaign officially on Friday after being given a pass to the second round.
Just before the start of the competition, Fernandez posted a picture on the social media platform Instagram, which received a lot of attention. That is largely because in one of the pictures of that post, her pose resembles that of a very famous movie in a fiction movie called Matrix. Fernandez was quick to highlight that herself with a caption: “The question is… how did I get myself in this position? 😅 #thematrix”
Fernandez will be hoping to have an impressive outing in the competition where she is taking part for the first time. The Montreal-born star is not having a great 2024 season where she has not managed to win a single tournament. She has played 42 matches and won just 23 of them. Her best appearance this year came at the Rothesay International Eastbourne where she lost to Russia’s Daria Kasatkina. She is set to face America’s Peyton Stearns in the round of 64 of the competition on Friday. The 22-year-old booked her place in the second round of the competition after beating Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two players in professional tennis.
