The WTA 250 Chennai Open is set to make a welcoming return to the calendar after a three-year absence off the WTA Tour. The event in India will be held from 27th October - 2nd November, being one of the last tournaments in 2025 for players to collect ranking points and challenge for a title before full-focus goes onto next year.
This event is the most prestigious in India, but it will not be met by a hugely decorated field. The main name on the entry list is Linda Fruhvirtova, the previous winner of this event. The 17-year-old at the time fought back from a set deficit to defeat Magda Linette 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Despite it being the young Czech's only WTA title, the world number 140 will be hoping to change her fortunes and double her tally with more success in India.
The runner-up in 2022 Linette will not return, with Tatjana Maria the number one seed in the event, The world number 44 is the only member of the top 50 competing in the tournament, with the 38-year-old German looking to back up her triumph at Queens earlier on in the year.
The 2024 Wimbledon semi-finalist Donna Vekic will be her biggest challenger for the title, with Francesca Jones, Lulu Sun, Lucia Bronzetti, Zeynep Sonmez and Kimberley Birrell also eyeing up glory of their own in Chennai.
