Mirra Andreeva receives ball
The main part of the Middle East swing takes place in the form of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships which is from February 15-21 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai.
It is a WTA 1000 in comparison to being a men's 500 and sees Mirra Andreeva as defending champion who will return aiming to make it two-in-a-row. Most of the top names are in fact involved in Dubai.
Up to press, Aryna Sabalenka as well as Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Amanda Anisimova, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are all signed up as well as Andreeva. Victoria Mboko, Karolina Muchova, Jelena Ostapenko and Maria Sakkari all also come in from form having reached the latter stages of the Qatar Open.
Only really Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys have in fact had to withdraw, Keys decided not to really play the Middle Eastern swing last year either and has done so again seemingly electing to return towards Indian Wells and Miami instead.
But also there is the added storyline that Elena Rybakina could've feasibly have done this during this past week but she is likely to become World No.2 with Iga Swiatek's stranglehold on that spot waning as a result of Rybakina's continued rise back to prominence. Albeit she reached the Quarter-Finals in Doha like Rybakina, both losing to Mboko and Sakkari. But also for many it is their first action too since the Australian Open so it will be interesting to see where they are at.
Shown throughout the world on Sky Sports in the UK, Nine and Stan Sport in Australia and Tennis Channel in the US, the full listings for this next week are below as we look ahead towards a busy period as we head towards the clay court season post the Sunshine Double. From Middle East to America then to Europe we go and it is the first stop this next week.
