Carolina Garcia made a huge step forward in 2017 and by 2018 the French player was ranked number four in the world with a very bright future ahead of her.
Unfortunately, that never materialized as her level and rankings slowly dipped after that culminating in a very poor 2021 season. That resulted in Garcia, now 28, being ranked as number 74 in the world at the moment. The French player wants to return to the top of tennis and compatriot and former grand slam champion Marion Bartoli believes she can.
Bartoli said:
"I think Caroline can still achieve something great. I am convinced of it. She has exceptional qualities, even if she is a bit fragile mentally. I regret that she was often criticized in these choices and in keeping her father as a coach."
Bartoli further said:
"Rather than criticizing her, we should have encouraged and supported her. I think this situation weakened him while in my case, the critics galvanized me. We do not react in the same way depending on the situation. Personally, I fed off that."
Bartoli also touched upon the film about the father of the Williams sister's noting that something like that probably never could have happened in France:
"At the moment the film about the life of the Williams sisters is released, I don't think a journey like that could have happened in France. I regret it, but I also know what I'm talking about."
