The popularity of Roger Federer around the world is something to marvel at but it's not by chance as the Swiss ace captivated many with his stellar plays over the past twenty years.
Craig Boynton understands very well how the popularity of Federer can impact the matches especially when he plays at a venue like Wimbledon. The Swiss ace almost always gets the crowd on his side and many tennis players can struggle with the hostile environment when playing Federer. The magnitude of the matchup can play a factor as well.
Remembering that, Boynton explained how he prepared Hurkacz for their match at Wimbledon this year:
"We didn't have much time to prepare for the match against Roger Federer at Wimbledon. I tried to make Hubert Hurkacz understand what the climate would be like once he entered the field. The whole world would like Federer to never lose. Hurkacz handled the tension very well, proving to have a great character."
The Polish player stood firm in the face of the challenge and defeated Federer to the disappointment of many on the court. He also held his nerve to serve a bagel as a parting gift to the Swiss ace which left a bitter taste in many people's mouths. Boynton also said:
"When the match was over, he told me that he had never heard such a loud stadium before. I had warned him in all ways in the previous hours, but he was not convinced until he experienced it directly."
