Leylah Fernandez won her first match since the US Open against Cornet 6-2 6-3 and after the match, she expressed love for Indian Wells.
It was a winning return for Leylah Fernandez at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells as the Canadian proved too strong for Cornet. Fernandez played a very confident match showing that her success at the US Open is not a fluke but a product of immense confidence with a healthy dose of tennis skill. After the match, Fernandez expressed happiness about the way she played:
“I’m very happy with the way I played. I trained very hard after the US Open final and playing for the first time in Indian Wells I was happy that the crowd came and cheered me on and I am happy to play in front of them.”
Fernandez looked very comfortable on the court during the slow night session and that comfort level stems from a warm welcome Fernandez received upon arrival in Indian Wells. After her win, she expressed love for the event and people working here saying:
“I’m in love with Indian Wells and the people here are so amazing and so nice and so welcoming and for me, it’s tennis paradise and I am enjoying every minute of it.”
