Victoria
Azarenka commented that she would have liked to dedicate herself to playing the
piano if she weren't a tennis player. The former world No. 1 mentioned that she
had to choose between tennis and music, and her choice for sports led her to
fail her last piano test.
The
Belarusian has had a good run at the
Miami Open, with victories over Peyton
Stearns, Zheng Qinwen (No. 7), and Katie Boulter (No. 24), reaching the
quarterfinals of the Miami Open, where she will face Yulia Putintseva.
Azarenka
recently commented on her love for classical music and that she played the
piano for a long time in her childhood, so she would have liked to pursue a
career as a musician if she hadn't become a tennis player:
“When I was
a kid, I played all kind of different sports and I was actually playing piano
and I was had quite a pretty good talent in that. My music teacher was having
really hopes for me in piano. And then he actually made me choose between piano
and tennis. When I was 12-13 years old I would say, and I choose tennis and he
failed me in my last exam,” she said.
“So it kind
of broke my heart a little bit to try to play piano again, but I really enjoy
classical music, I enjoy music a lot. So I don’t know if I would have been a
musician, at the time, but I feel like I do have sort of special relationship
with that,” the 2-times Grand Slam champion added.
