"I definitely wasn’t dreaming about this when giving birth in October last year": Svitolina's Roland Garros comeback dream continues

Elina Svitolina equalled the best-ever result she had at Roland Garros (French Open) by once again advancing to the quarter-finals at the event, the first time as a mother.

Svitolina was away from tennis for much of last year due to being pregnant but made her return in the past few weeks. From a good showing in Charleston to now, Svitolina worked hard for weeks ultimately finding her best at Roland Garros ad advancing to the quarter-finals. Backed by the French crowd, she was moved by the atmosphere explaining after the match:

“I definitely wasn’t dreaming about this when giving birth in October last year. It’s unbelievable for me to be able to compete here and go all way to the quarter-finals. It’s a really special feeling. Hopefully I can push even further. I’m really motivated to give my everything for the next matches."

On her opponent, Kasatkina, Svitolina added:

“Daria has a very unique game style. I had to adjust my game. Yesterday on the practice courts I tried to work on a few things tactically. Of course, there was a little bit of nerves in the second set but it’s quite normal, it’s a Grand Slam. Lot’s of little things are going on in the head. Just nice to finish this match in two sets.”
