Germany’s
Eva Lys has opened up about the importance of managing workload because of a
health issue. The 23-year-old is currently taking part in the
French Open, where she managed to cement a spot in the second round after beating America’s Peyton Stearns in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-3.
Lys spoke to the media after the match, talking about the importance of managing workload. The Kyiv-born star stated that she had to lead with an immune disorder, which makes it essential for her to manage her workload. She also
stated that when she was informed about the condition, she never thought it was
going to be about her.
“I had a variety of symptoms, but they didn’t come at the
same time so we didn’t really know,” she said. “I have my doctor back home in
Hamburg. He’s been with me since I was 10 years old. I wouldn’t be able to play
tennis without him. He had this theory that it might be going into the
arthritis, spondyloarthritis, direction. As soon as I heard it, I was just
laughing about it. I’m pretty young, I didn’t think it was going to be me. I’m
not going to lie, I’ve just had days where my body was not doing what it’s
supposed to. Even like preparing here (for the French Open), maybe one or two
practices less, ’cause it’s something I have to do. But I know that if I give
my body time, it recovers. The next day I’m stronger than ever. I just need to
find the right balance with regeneration and the practice process.”
Lys will now face Canada’s youngster Victoria Mboko, who
cemented her spot in the round of 64 after beating New Zealand’s Lulu Sun in
straight sets in the first round of the competition with a score of 6-1, 7-6. This
will be the first-ever meeting between the two players in professional tennis.
