Britain’s tennis star
Emma Raducanu has revealed that she is
expecting her body to be ready for the second round of the
Australian Open.
The 21-year-old, who recently made a return to the court
after a gap of nearly one year following a lengthy injury layoff, has managed
to get her campaign in Melbourne underway impressively as she defeated America’s
Shelby Rogers in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Raducanu was recently quoted in a report where she stated
that optimism that her body will be able to cope with the pressure of playing
in the second round of the mega-event.
"I do trust my body,” she said. “I've done a lot of
good work physically in the last few months and the LTA have helped me off the
court to build that foundation. It's only the beginning and I know there is a
lot more work to do.
“But I feel pretty comfortable in my body and not thinking
'I've got to get this over with quickly'. It's about getting matches under my
belt and more familiarity with certain situations."
The 2021 US Open champion
will now face China’s Wang Yafan in the round of 64 tie of the mega-event on
Thursday.
