Martina Navratilova doesn't see any player being capable of knocking off
Iga Swiatek for the throne of WTA tennis picking her to finish number one in 2023.
It's hard to blame Navratilova for that stance considering the type of year Swiatek had. Over sixty wins and less than 10 losses with several trophies and two grand slams. It's hard to imagine a player having a better year but Navratilova could see it happen next year. She certainly doesn't think anybody is knocking her off of number one:
"I don’t see anybody knocking her off -- because she’s so consistent. She wins majors -- and she’s consistent. Usually, it’s one or the other. She’s got them both going on
at the same time. I think to see if she’s making any changes, adding to
her game again. This past year, she made more forays to the net, and it
made a big difference."
She's already won two matches in the new campaign but also lost to Rybakina so she is beatable.
