The 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu had to skip the entire 2020 season due to a severe left knee injury suffered at the WTA Finals in November 2019.
Bianca made a return at this year's Australian Open and suffered an early loss before reaching the Phillip Island Trophy semi-final, where she suffered a tight defeat to Marie Bouzkova.
The Mississauga native had to skip Doha and Dubai due to a leg injury, working hard on her comeback and returning to action this week in Miami. Bianca will face Yaroslava Shvedova or a qualifier in the second round, hoping for a deep run and to gain confidence ahead of the rest of the season.
"Just feeling good out there, I think that's that main thing that's going to help me get rid of that. I am a professional athlete that's wearing and tearing her body, so it's normal to have pains here and there, and it's not like I am the only one that's retiring from tournaments and stuff like that. So many players do the same. I am feeling confident going into the event and always trying my hardest.
I am the type of person to always set high expectations for myself. Now, my main goal is to be happy out there and enjoy myself as much as I can. Even if my tennis feels off, I want to take it as something I can push through and feel fulfilled after the match," Bianca Andreescu said.
