Simona Halep had an excellent start to her
US Open journey with two victories and the Romanian player is glad to be healthy.
Simona Halep missed a crucial part of the 2021 season after a lower leg injury that kept her off the court for several months. It was a type of injury that Halep never experienced and coming back from it was very tough. She explained:
"At the beginning was very tough. Because never happened to me, this kind of injury, to have a muscle broken in two spots, big spots. So it was challenging because I never faced something like this before. I didn't know how to handle the pain."
While the injury healed for Halep it was still tough to adjust to playing because the doubt of reinjury lingered:
"It's been a little bit more difficult, the mental part after the injury. After I got healthy [and came] back, I could play without pain, [but] I was still scared of it. Mentally I was a little bit down. Then I came to Cincinnati, and I did another thing, similar to what I had at the calf, but much smaller."
After all of that Halep is now feeling finally good withouth any pain. Mentalyl she is also doing fine saying:
"And now I feel happy that I feel good, no pain, no struggling anymore with the mental part. So I'm just happy to be on the court and trying my best to win every match I play."
