Clara Tauson pulled a huge upset by defeating 6th seed
Anett Kontaveit in Melbourne and after the match, she spoke about what worked for her.
The talent of Clara Tauson is undeniable yet many did not think she would have enough to defeat a pretty solid Anett Kontaveit who was the 6th seed at the event. The Estonian only recently became a steady top 10 player after a brilliant run at the end of the year but Tauson played fearless tennis and she cruised comfortably.
Speaking after the match she admitted that feeling great on the court gave her a lot of confidence:
"I felt so good out here. I heard a lot of people cheering for me… that just gave me so much confidence and I played a very good match. It's the first time I'm in the third round of a slam [and] playing a player like her to reach it, it's a really big achievement for me."
The win was the first time Tauson defeated a player ranked inside the top 10 which is a pretty big milestone for the 19-year old. She admitted that she did not think too much about winning before it started:
"I didn't really go into this match with a winning thought. Obviously, I wanted to win, but she's one of the best players in the
world so I don't think I can go in with the attitude I have to win this
match. It was more I can win, but we'll see what happens."
