"I had goosebumps stepping back into this court tonight" - says Leylah Fernandez after return to New York

Last year's finalist Leylah Fernandez made a winning start at the US Open and she explained how it felt after the match.

Fernandez did not have too much success since reaching the final of the US Open last year so a return to New York was something she was looking forward to. It didn't disappoint as she won her first match and admitted to feeling goosebumps after:

"I had goosebumps stepping back into this court tonight. I felt the love here tonight. I was a bit tired waiting all day long, but the crowd's cheers pushed me to the end."

Wins like this should give Fernandez confidence moving forward although nobody expects her to have a deep run once more.
