World number two Aryna Sabalenka has sent a heartfelt message
to her Wimbledon 2023 semifinal opponent Ons Jabeur.
The 25-year-old suffered a defeat in the last four against
the current world number six with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday in
London.
Despite that defeat, Sabalenka, in a post on her official
Twitter account, wished Jabeur all the best for her second consecutive
Wimbledon final.
The defeat was a crushing blow for Sabalenka’s hopes of
becoming the world number one as she needed to qualify for the Wimbledon final
to replace Poland’s Iga Swiatek at the summit.
Despite that result, the 25-year-old will be largely pleased
with her performance at the third Grand Slam of the year.
She ended up winning four out of five matches in straight
sets — against Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, Russia’s Anna Blinkova, Ekaterina
Alexandrova and America’s Madison Keys.
Before Thursday, Sabalenka lost just one set in the
competition which was in the second round against France’s Varvara Gracheva.
