"I love playing in California and it means a lot to me" - Pegula head of San Diego Open

WTA Race number three Jessica Pegula spoke ahead of the San Diego Open explaining her excitement about the event.

Pegula has had an amazing year so far being ranked 3rd in the WTA Race and with a spot at the WTA Finals ensured. She'd like to add to her year some more as she looks for a strong finish. She was present with Coco Gauff at the draw party and addressed the crowd:

"I've spent some time training at the Redondo beach for a few years, so I'm familiar with the area and the support from you guys means a lot to me. I think being amongst some of the top American players, I really like to show up for events like this and I appreciate your support. I love playing in California in this amazing weather and it means a lot to me."

She added;

"Hopefully us Americans can give back to you guys this week and put on a great tournament for women's tennis. It's another event for us to do well to get some more fans out there. Thank you so much for the support, I enjoy being here and hopefully we'll have a great event."
