Leylah Fernandez revealed that she sees Floyd Mayweather as a role model for her because she admires what he's been able to do in his sport.
Fernandez is a sports fan and it's not just tennis that she consumes. She finds inspiration all across the athletes' spectrum and in a recent talk she revealed Floyd Mayweather as an inspiration. The boxer is known as one of the best in the sport holding an incredible career record on top of his style of boxing.
She admitted that she loves boxing and saw him as a role model growing up:
"We love watching boxing, like, Floyd Mayweather, he was one of my role models growing up. I loved how the way he was able to move, dodge and use offense and defense and how he was able to move so fast when punches were coming right at him so quickly."
She was then asked about Rocky and she confirmed that she's a fan:
"Ofcourse, I'm [a 'Rocky' fan]. I love Rocky. I've watched all the movies and so inspirational too, so it's great."
Turning her attention to tennis, she reacted to her first match on clay in 2023:
"I think it really went well. I'm super happy the way I played, the way I was able to transition from hard court to clay court on such a short amount of time. I think I enjoyed myself on clay a lot and I was able to play my game overall so that was awesome."
