Simona Halep has endured a very tough 2021 on the courts with injuries derailing the better part of her campaign.
She is now finally fully healthy and back to playing regular tennis with some of her former flashy form returning. It was not all doom and gloom in 2021 for Halep as she made a huge step in her private life. After her US Open exit, Halep tied the knot with longtime partner Toni Iuruc in a lavish ceremony with many guests.
The wedding sparked some rumours in her native Romanian that Halep might not play that much longer but at the
Transylvania Open the Romanian was quick to dismiss those rumours saying:
“Many people were talking about that, but I never said I would stop
playing after the wedding party. I’m still motivated and still love tennis. My husband is next to me
all the time, and I’m happy to stay on court, and play matches.”
The Romanian superstar is currently playing at the Translyvania Open where she hopes to win her first trophy on native soil since Bucharest in 2016. So for she has looked extremely good dismantling compatriot Ruse in two easy sets. After the match she said:
“I’m improving, day by day. I feel more confident during
the tournaments and matches. I think I’m starting to feel my best game
again. Of course, it’s never easy after a long period without playing
matches. Now, I’m focused only on what I feel today, and I feel good.
The injuries are in the past, so I’m trying to take positives from every
match.”
