Danielle Collins overcame
Ons Jabeur to reach the
Roland Garros quarterfinal after having to sleep once more before stepping onto the court.
It was a match that was supposed to be played last night but weather prevented that so Collins played today and it didn't hinder her in reaching the Roland Garros quarterfinal. After the match she spoke to the media reflecting on how things turned in the 2nd set:
“I felt like I was in the driver’s seat up until, 6-4, 3-0. I think she's a really tricky player and she has so many tools under her belt that she's able to use in really clutch moments."
Collins was up 6-4 3-0 before things turned in the 2nd set in the favour of Jabeur. She would go on to win the set 6-4. When asked what happened Collins explained it as:
“I think it was maybe when I was up 3-0 in the second set and there were a couple of really strong groundstrokes that I had hit. She was able to hit a dropshot off of those. You don't usually see too many players being able to handle the pace that well and then being able to have the soft touch with their hands to hit an effective dropshot. So I found that to be very challenging, because it just wasn't something I was always expecting.”
Luckily for her, she composed herself in the 3rd set which allowed her to win the match with a 6-4 final set victory.
