Nadia Podoroska continued her stellar run at the Roland Garros with another stunning victory against Elina Svitolina to reach the semifinal.
The Argentinian started her lengthy Roland Garros journey in the qualifiers and today she defeated Elina Svitolina to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal. It was a strong display from Podoroska who controlled the match from start to finish with her strong baseline play. Svitolina had massive issues during her service games as most long or longer rallies were won by Podoroska.
The Ukrainian started the match well with a break but Podoroska broke her right back. That started a furious run from the Argentinian which ended with a 6-2 1st set victory. Svitolina was totally overmatched in rallies winning only two first service point all set long. Podoroska was aggressive and it paid off as she hit 17 winners compared to Svitolina's 2. She also racked up more errors 15 to 9 by Svitolina but that comes with the aggressiveness.
The 2nd set was a whirlwind of emotions for both the players and fans. It started off slowly with both winning service games without dropping a point. After that, we saw six straight games where there player serving could not hold their serve. Podoroska was vulnerable on her own serve for the most of the match but Elina simply could not hold her own serve as she was losing longer baseline rallies all the time. Ultimately at 5-4 for Podoroska, Svitolina struggled with her serve with gave Podoroska several match points. While she failed to used the first two she used the 3rd one to complete the sensational victory and continue her magical run. Well done.
