Former player and tennis legend Martina Navratilova thinks tennis is in good hands with Swiatek on top of the rankings.
Iga Swiatek has been the top player in tennis for the majority of this year, basically ever since Ashleigh Barty retired. She did not inherit it, she worked for and proved to be the rightful owner of that top of tennis by winning 30+ matches in a row during a part of the season.
She also won two grand slam trophies and is generally a very calm voice of reason in the tennis community doing some amazing work. Just recently she was able to force ITF's hand of making the Calendar more compatible with the WTA one so that players would not skip the Billie Jean King Cup.
All of that signals to Martina Navratilova that tennis is in good hands:
“I think women’s tennis is in good hands, with Iga Swiatek at the top and many players who want to get to the top. I
think that, you know, we can’t replace Roger Federer or Serena
Williams, but we can bring in new faces that make us feel better about
ourselves and keep us entertained”.
