Jennifer Brady is having a summer to remember, as the American booked her place in her first Grand Slam semifinal.
Following
her maiden WTA title win in Lexington last month, the 28th seed is yet to drop a set at this year's
US Open. With a
resounding fourth round victory over former champion
Angelique Kerber and
an easy quarterfinal win over
Yulia Putintseva, the 25-year old has reached a career milestone.
“Coming into the match today, honestly I was feeling like I was going to poop my pants, but I was very nervous,” Brady told press afterwards. “I just tried to really stay calm and, like, keep it cool as a cucumber out there.”
Brady credited her newfound consistency to the off-season work she did with new coach Michael Geserer: the American trained with him in Germany instead of spending the time off back home in the United States.
“I decided if I want to give myself an opportunity to maximize my potential and see how far I can get as a tennis player, I think I have to make a change,” Brady said. “Because [my new coach and trainer] were based out of Germany, I decided, Okay, I'll go to Germany.”
This proved to be very effective, as she hoisted her first trophy upon resumption of the tour. Furthermore, she is yet to drop a set in both tournaments, as her huge serve and penetrating forehand allow her to apply constant pressure to her opponents.
The World No.41 will face 2018 champion
Naomi Osaka for a spot in the final, after Osaka defeated
Shelby Rogers in
her quarterfinal match.
