There were really emotional scenes at the end of one of the greatest
Wimbledon finals witnessed.
Linda Noskova was in command for much of it but was dragged into a titanic battle by fellow Czech Karolina Muchova before
winning her first ever Grand Slam 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
The 21-year-old broke new ground at
Wimbledon in fine fashion. She was the better player for much of it with huge and accurate serving backed up with powerful shots that left Muchova on the back foot for much of the contest.
That was showcased in the opening stages when she stormed out into a 5-2 lead, breaking the serve once more to win the first set in a dominant manner.
She continued to showcase this blistering form, again leading 5-2. In the space of three games, five championship points were spurned in gut-wrenching fashion as Muchova broke back the seventh time of asking. The former Roland Garros finalist would win five games on the spin as she won the second set, leaving Noskova to put her fingers in her ears, her towel over the head and even leaving the court at the end of it.
She came back with a fresh mind, and showed maturity and grit expected from the most senior of tennis players. She saved break points before breaking on the way to a 3-0 lead. She never looked back from there, serving it out with her sixth championship point before collapsing to the ground as a Grand Slam champion.
Noskova fights the emotions with special mention to late mother
Following
Muchova's emotional speech, there was not a dry eye in the house. Noskova's would continue the teary affair as she commented her feelings after winning the title. "All these matches have been so tough physically and mentally tough, today especially and it's never easy to get the last point," she said.
"Karo - you really made me work for it. We're friends, I'm so glad I could play you in my first Grand Slam final, with you I think we made history today. I believe all the Czech fans at home are proud of us, no matter the result, it's a good day. I want to congratulate your team, a good two weeks for you and a great season so congrats as well."

She moved onto her team as well as her dad who was jubilant following the result. "I want to thank my team, I want to thank my dad for coming here, for my family flying here - I know you don't like flying so I appreciate it. I would like to thank my friends, supporters, agents, my whole team. I would like to thank my coach, for being with me, which is not easy all the time. We have been together for six years and I'm so grateful for you. I would not be here without you."
There was, however, one very special person that was not in her box, and that was her mum who passed away in 2024 following a battle with cancer. She would have been proud of the effort her daughter put in, and Noskova made sure to give her a special mention. "There's one more person that I want to thank, which is my mum. I would definitely not be standing here without you so thank you," she
emotionally stated, looking up to the sky and blowing a kiss into it.
"I have enjoyed these two weeks so much. All the sad tears, happy tears, sweat, blood and it's all worth it. I will never forget these two weeks. I want to thank all the fans. You guys made this final like nothing I've experience before so I can't wait to come back."
