Danielle Collins' recent run of form wasn't enough for a third title of the season as she went down to Madison Keys who herself has been quietly going about her business and producing results. The fourth seed at the Internationaux de Strasbourg sealed the title 6-1, 6-2 in the end.

Keys reached the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals in Rome and Madrid and has only been denied by Iga Swiatek in recent weeks. Very similar to Collins only being defeated by Aryna Sabalenka. Only the best have found their way past both Americans.

But it was Keys who has been sensational since returning from injury who found her way through. Collins though as she often does stole the show during the post match speech. She lauded praise on Keys in a heartwarming manner. She spoke about knowing her since she was 10 and being pen pals to now being in finals together and fighting it out for titles.

They will also be teammates at the Olympic Games for the USA in another memory and will now head to Roland Garros as two of the outside names to watch aside from the WTA Big Three of Swiatek, Sabalenka and Rybakina.

“What a special week to play one of my long time friends, Madi. We’ve known each other since we were 10 years old. We used to be pen pals and write each other little letters.. some incredible memories. I never like losing in the finals, but if I’m gonna lose to someone, I don’t mind losing to you.. cause you know.. we’re American buddies," said Collins.

Keys reciprocated the praise to Collins in her speech as the 30-year-old smiled away next to her. “Danielle, you’ve had the most incredible few weeks. I’ve absolutely loved cheering you on and watching you beat basically everyone who stood in your way. It’s been amazing to see that. Congratulations on another really great week," said the champion.
