Rennae
Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams, criticized
Elena Rybakina's current
coach, Stefano Vukov, for his behavior during the 2024
Miami Open final. Stubbs
was bothered by the coach's gestures in response to the errors made by the
world No. 4.
The Kazakh
tennis player was defeated in the Miami Open final for the second consecutive
year, this time against Danielle Collins with a score of 7-5, 6-3. The American
claimed her first WTA 1000 title in her final year on the Tour after two hours
and two minutes.
During the
match, Rybakina appeared frustrated at times by several unforced errors she
made. According to Stubbs' comments on social media, she would "lose her
mind" if she were playing and her coach made those gestures."Legit if
i looked over and saw my coach constantly gesturing the things I’m doing wrong,
i would LOSE MY MIND! @MiamiOpen," she posted on X.
A fan
responded to Stubbs and commented on Vukov's negativity, also wondering if
Rybakina could play even better with another coach
"His
negativity is nothing short of astounding. Does make me wonder on her level if
she had someone actually uplifting. To think she’s this good with THAT going
on," the fan commented.
"Yep,"
Stubbs replied.
