Elena Rybakina despite not winning the title at the
Miami Open and not being 100% by her own admission throughout her run again in Florida was still in record breaking form. An ominous sign going forward no doubt.
Rybakina last year hit 199 winners to set a new record in a WTA 1000 tournament and this year, she added to her own record albeit by only one notch as she lost out 7-6, 6-3 to Danielle Collins in the decider at the Miami Open.
In the end, the former Wimbledon champion hit 200 winners in total to beat her own record after she lost to Petra Kvitova at the same stage back in 2023.
Albeit the reaction to this statistic being pointed out was negative with tennis fans saying that she still lost the final as well as chiming in that she likely holds the record for most unforced errors too as she failed to deliver against the American in the final.
But a tournament that she was left pleased with despite the circumstances gleams another record for the Kazakh who will now move forward to the clay court season and Stuttgart in a few weeks time.
