Iga Swiatek advanced to the 4th round of the US Open by beating Lauren Davis in a fairly competitive two-hour match 6-3 6-4.
Davis showed a lot of promise this week in New York playing some very aggressive tennis that she certainly brought today as well. The American fell behind 0-3 early in this match because the aggressive approach did not give any results.
The lead grew for Swiatek as she found herself up 4-1 at one point in time with the set assuming a natural flow after that and ending 6-3 in favour of the Polish player. It was a fairly attacking one by both but 5 winners and 15 unforced errors were not good enough for Swiatke who had 17 winners and 20 unforced ones.
The 2nd set opened much better for Davis who jumped out to an early 3-0 lead which she held for a while. Eventually, Swiatek was able to battle back and make it 4-4 adding another break, later on, to finish off the match 6-4.
She won 5 games in a row to finish off the match as Davis failed to keep up the high level from the first couple of games.
