Iga Swiatek had to battle hard but she was able to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova in the end 7-6(5) 2-6 6-4.
It was a match that went over two hours and 30 minutes with the Polish player proving better in the end but it was a close match. The first set alone lasted over an hour and saw it finish in the tiebreak. Both opened well but Swiatke was the first player to face a break point.
She saved it but later wasted the only break chance Alexandrova gave her. It was a huge chance to clinch the opening set as it was a set point as well but in the end, we went into the tiebreak. It was a very topsy-turvy affair with the Polish player emerging victorious 7-5.
The second set saw Alexandrova easily smash Swiatek who could not put the ball into the court. The Russian relaxed and started hitting the ball really jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Swiatek pulled back one break but lost her serve once again to drop the set 2-6.
The Russian was playing great and she applied some early pressure with Iga barely holding on. Another break point wasted by Alexandrova proved costly later on as Swiatek converted hers to go up. She would close out the set 6-4 to secure the final.
