Not only did Iga Swiatek finish the 2023 season as the top ranked player, but the Polish star also achieved milestones in terms of titles won that haven't been done since 2013.
During her impressive season, the 22-year old won 6 titles, which led the WTA tour. However, Swiatek also accomplished another feat, becoming the first woman in a decade to win a WTA 250, a WTA 500, a WTA 1000, the WTA Finals and a Grand Slam in the same season. The last person to do so was American tennis legend Serena Williams in 2013.
The reigning Roland Garros champion was dominant during the 2023 season, relinquishing the World No.1 spot for a few weeks to Aryna Sabalenka before regaining it at the end of the year. The Warsaw native claimed titles at Doha, Stuttgart, Roland-Garros, Warsaw and Beijing, before ending the season with a dominant display at the WTA Finals.
With the Paris Olympics looming in 2024, Swiatek is already considered a favorite to win the Olympic gold medal, as the event will be taking place on the same clay courts used for Roland Garros.
