Iga Swiatek is into the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 French Open after thrashing Anastasia Potapova in just 39 minutes in a double bagel 6-0, 6-0. Truly remarkable from the World No.1 with Potapova simple not turning up.
Swiatek seemed to suffer her scare earlier in the tournament when she was taken the distance by Naomi Osaka. But since then routed Marie Bouzkova and now Potapova. This display was somewhat not a shock from the Russian who since emerging has not had the form over the last 18 months.
But this display was not expected as they began the day on Court Philippe Chatrier with one of the quickest games all tournament. The first set was won in just 18 minutes and it didn’t get much easier for Potapova from there. Next up will likely be Olga Danilovic who is heading towards the first set against Marketa Vondrousova.
What is sure I’d that whoever faces the imperious Swiatek will have to up their game massively to even remain on the court for an hour. Four time champion had a nice ring to it and she is well underway.
Potapova can take solace from a great run but when it mattered most she didn’t produce which is bound to be a bone of frustration. The next threat for Swiatek will likely be in the final at this rate with one of the Big Three likely lurking ready to take her on. But her rivals will look towards the Osaka match as a missed opportunity.
