Iga Swiatek smashes Tsurenko in Roland Garros opener

Iga Swiatek got off to a great start at this year's Roland Garros by smashing Lesia Tsurenko 6-2 6-0 in her first-round match.

Swiatek came to Roland Garros as the clear favourite to win the trophy and if she does it will be her 2nd career Roland Garros. If you haven't been living under a rock you know what she was able to do in the past couple of months. She continued that in this match as well jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. Tsurenko could not keep up with Swiatek and she mainly try to hang on.

The match was played under a closed roof due to Parisian weather playing joker with the organizers but that did not matter to her. She's an excellent indoor player and she added another break at 4-1 to make it 5-1. Then she lost her serve to make it 5-2 but broke her opponent once more to make it 6-2. For Swiatek, it was all about pacing.

She probably could have won this match 6-0 6-0 if she wanted to but she played it cool. Nine winners in the first set was good enough for the first set but she upped her level a little bit in the 2nd set finishing it off with a bagel 6-0. Nine winners once again were more than enough to finish it off. A good start for Swiatek at the French Open.
