Iga Swiatek played a really strong match in the final taking down an up-and-down
Ons Jabeur 6-2 7-6(5) to win the 2022
US Open.
Swiatek started her US Open swing by complaining about the tennis balls used at those events but by the end of it, it's clear she's mastered them well. Taking on Jabeur in the final, Swiatek never looked out of place dominating against the Tunisian who rarely displayed her best tennis.
It was a clash between a fairly nervous player who never quite found her footing. Very erratic and without a clear plan about how to attack the Polish player. Serving woes didn't help as they gave Swiatek more chances to break her.
Swiatek broke Jabeur three times in the opening set to take it 6-2 behind 11 winners compared to six from Jabeur. The start of the second set was better by Swiatek who took a 3-0 lead but wasted a 40-15 advantage to go up 3-1. She broke back to make it 3-2 but dropped her serve once more to make it 2-4.
The Tunisian would make it 4-4 and have a couple of break points to go ahead 5-4 but she failed to use either. Unable to create that one good shot on break point which would prove costly down the line. Jabeur saved the first match point but not the second in the tiebreak which Swiatek won 7-5.
